LAKE WALES, FL (WFLA) - A woman who escaped from a Lake Wales police car Wednesday has turned herself in.

Chelsea Stoudemire, 19, turned herself in to the Lake Wales Police Departmentt around 5:40 p.m. Thursday still wearing a handcuff locked to one of her wrists, police say.

Police say she was cooperative and after reviewing the original incident she was released.

Stoudemire was taken into police custody after a fight that occurred in the street with Kelvin Smith Wednesday afternoon. The pair was taken to the police department as part of the investigation.

The police department says they will be conducting an internal investigation as well as reviewing its policy and procedure to determine how an incident like this does not occur in the future.
