TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - Traffic around Trader Joe's in south Tampa has been heavy since the store opened last Friday. The store is located on Swann and Dale Mabry.

During the lunch rush today, two off duty Tampa Police Officers were manning the parking lot, making sure drivers were moving.

Corporal Shane Gadoury says it's a bit challenging. "It's been busy." Said Gadoury. "It's been a constant steady flow of traffic, in and out, a lot of people are here. I don't know if.. I've seen license plates from all over from different countries to other states."

The increased traffic has made it difficult for other businesses. Some Trader Joe's shoppers are parking in their lots and walking across the street to the popular store.

One man is charging five dollars per car to park at a lot across the street. Marissa Machin is the manager at the South Beach Tanning Company adjacent to Trader Joes. "It's been, people pulling in, coming out." Said Machin. "Our customers are having trouble getting out, just because people are cutting through. Just to park. So it's definitely been an issue. "

The Tampa Police Department says it hasn't received any complaints from residents in the area, and officers say traditionally, once the newness of the business wears off, the traffic will taper off.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is changing management rules of invasive lionfish to remove them from state waters. Lionfish was introduced to state waters in the 1980s, and since then, populations have boomed in recent years, negatively impacting native wildlife and habitat, the FWC says.
