ST. PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) -

Firefighters rescued two people Thursday morning from a burning home that did not have smoke detectors.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at 7363 17th Way N. around 4:34 a.m. and found heavy black smoke and flames coming from the home's roof.

Firefighters discovered two people in the home while battling the blaze. The men, ages 55 and 26 were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say the fire started in the kitchen.

St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue provides free smoke alarms to families in need.
