Pollen Allergies and Food

Posted: Updated:
Televison Park -  If you haven't noticed already, the pollen is back. But there are some foods that may be making your allergies worse.

According to the Atlanta Allergy and Asthma Clinic, one in three people with seasonal allergies experience symptoms- such as an itchy mouth, lips or throat and sniffling or sneezing- after eating raw foods and fresh fruit.

Allergy patients may experience reactions when eating foods such as apples, pears, oranges, almonds and walnuts. That's because their immune system can sense the similarity between proteins in pollen and those foods. Cooking and or peeling these foods may help, but you'll want to talk to an allergist if you have a serious reaction.
