RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh is growing by leaps and bounds, and city leaders said they're trying to keep up with the population.

Mayor Nancy McFarlane gave her State of the City address Monday morning, saying rethinking transit is very important to deal with the city's growth.

"I have large employers that tell me the talent they try to recruit wants another option besides a car," she said. "So it's economic development, it's keeping the quality of life, it's so many things and we are in a great spot."

McFarlane said the biggest challenge for city leaders is not being complacent and doing the necessary planning to prepare for the future.

"It's important to not think we have it so great that we don't have to do that critical planning for what's going to happen in the next few years," McFarlane said.
