JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) - Around 3:00 am Sunday, a chaotic scene erupted in the Cherry Street parking lot.

When we got to the red light there were a lot of people running and still quite a few people here," said witness Ryan Warner.

Gunshots, that's what many of these bystanders heard causing them to flee. Investigators said the shooting was the result of an incident that began earlier in the night.

"There was just some kind of altercation inside the club that happened earlier in the night then once the club had closed down it just kind of bled over into the parking lot," said Sergeant Kevin Peters.

Despite bystander and EMS efforts, 24-year-old DeShaun Greer died at the scene. Sergeant Peters told News Channel 11, 3 others were wounded and thanks to the quick thinking of some bystanders the shooter was stopped.

"At the time of the shooting somebody had seen him firing the handgun and they come up from behind him and grabbed him and once one person grabbed him I think a couple of others come in and helped subdue him," said Peters.

Investigators said the next step for the Jamarcus Lavelle Jackson, the man they say is responsible for the shooting, is court.

"We've interviewed several witnesses, taken statements, collected all of our evidence so right now it's just going to go through the court process," said Peters.

Jackson is being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $200,000 bond. His arraignment is set for 1:30 pm Monday. The investigation is still ongoing.

A "Go Fund Me" account has been set up "In Loving Memory of DeShaun Greer."

"This fund will help the Greer family with any expenses that they have encountered due to the sudden loss of their son DeShaun Greer and injury of their other son Jamie Greer. Let's pull together as family, friends and communities do to show this family support. All proceeds will go directly to the Greer family to help with funeral, medical and other expenses that occurred during this loss," according to the website page.
