Richmond County Couple Facing Child Neglect Charges

Richmond County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested a couple for child neglect.
According to an incident report, Joanne and Johnston Santos, of Brandywine Place, got numerous complaints from neighbors about roaches and foul odors.
When deputies arrived at the couple's apartment, German roaches coming from the apartment and 5 children (aged 4 to 13) living in filth. The youngest child was found to be eating moldy food from a trash can. Feces was also found on the floor of the apartment.
Officers also noticed a "putrid odor" coming from the house and determined the house was unfit for anyone to live in. Upon further investigation, inspectors and deputies found feces spread across several walls, and roach nests on ceilings and walls.
The five children were removed from the home by the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS) and placed in the care of Mrs. Santos' sister.
Both parents are being held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center, charged with Deprivation of a Minor.
