Thomson, GA -

Jasper Brinkley, of the Minnesota Vikings, will serve as "Principal For A Day" at five McDuffie County schools this week.

Monday is the first day of a week-long series of events for Jasper Brinkley of the Minnesota Vikings, as he returns to his hometown of Thomson to serve as "Principal for a Day" at every school he attended as a child.

Jasper, along with his twin brother Casper, is an alumnus of JA Maxwell Elementary (Pre K through 1st grades); Thomson Elementary (2nd and 3rd grades); Norris Elementary (4th and 5th grades); and Thomson Middle (6th through 8th grades), and Thomson High (9th through 12th grades). Upon graduation, the Brinkley twins continued their education and pursuit of football at Georgia Military College, eventually transferring to the University of South Carolina.

Jasper was subsequently drafted by the Vikings in the fifth round of 2009 NFL Draft and played with them through 2012. He did a year-long stint with the Arizona Cardinals in 2013 and recently re-signed with the Minnesota Vikings on March 9th.

Jasper Brinkley's Itinerary for the Week is as follows:

Monday, March 17th - Principal for a Day at Norris Elementary School
Tuesday, March 18th - Principal for a Day at Thomson High School
Wednesday, March 19th - Principal for a Day at JA Maxwell Elementary School
Thursday, March 20th - Principal for a Day at Thomson Middle School
Friday, March 21st - Principal for a day at Thomson Elementary School

"We look forward to Jasper's visit to our schools.  We thank Jasper for his time and donations to our students and community.  His contributions are greatly appreciated by all," states McDuffie County School District's Superintendent JL LeBrun.

In addition to serving as Principal, Jasper will personally donated and deliver over 1500 brand new reading books to the elementary schools in an effort to promote the importance developing early literacy skills. Titles to be delivered to the students will include Disney's Wonderful World of Earth, Wonderful World of Dinosaurs, Wonderful World of Nature and Wonderful World of Space; Penguin Group's Who Was and Who Is book series featuring notables such as Jackie Robinson, Nelson Mandela, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Michelle and Barack Obama and more.

For the middle school and high school students, Jasper has devised a special incentive and will host a series of essay contests for a chance to win monetary gift cards, autographed items, and many other prizes.

"I am passionate about God, my family, football, and my community so it is a blessing to be able to combine everything that I am passionate about and spend the week at home motivating and inspiring the next generation to excel in whatever they set their minds to do," states Jasper.

Jasper partnered with Athletes for Charity to coordinate the week-long series of events to benefit the youth of his community. Athletes for Charity is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to team up with professional athletes, sports leagues and teams, various sports professionals, foster care agencies and related organizations, as well as volunteers and mentors, to empower and support the development of disadvantaged youth.  To learn more about Athletes for Charity, visit www.athletesforcharity.com.
