Some who participated in a cash-for-firearms buyback program in Winston-Salem will be able to redeem a voucher after police ran out of money.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported law enforcement officials took in 220 handguns and rifles or shotguns Saturday at a cost of $32,800.
The city council provided $10,000 for the event at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds, and another $10,000 came from the police department's forfeiture fund, which includes money recovered from illegal drug activity. The balance will likely come from donations.
When the money ran out, participants were given vouchers to redeem Wednesday.
A second buyback program will be held April 12 at First Waughtown Baptist Church.
