Man faces another extortion charge in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. -

A man faces another extortioncharge after a second victim came forward, Raleigh Police said Friday.

On Feb. 28, the Raleigh Police arrestedModou Thomas, 37, and charged him with extortion. The charge related to textmessages Thomas, who worked as a private security officer in a departmentstore, sent to a 23-year-old female who had been charged with shoplifting atthe store where Thomas worked. The texts offered to help her avoid convictionon the shoplifting charge in exchange for having sex with him, police said.

Later, an 18-year-old femalecame forward to talk to police. Thomas was arrested again Wednesday and againcharged with extortion. Police said this woman also had been arrested forshoplifting at the store where Thomas worked and was offered assistance withthe charge in return for having sex with the him.

The investigation is continuing,police said.
