NCDOT prepared for possible winter weather

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

The North Carolina Department of Transportation says it is ready for the possibility of winter weather Monday.

Most of the viewing area is under either a winter weather advisory or warning. Because rain is expected to fall before the changeover to sleet and freezing rain, the NCDOT can't pre-treat the roads. Any treatment on the roads would quickly wash away.

In Wake County, 50 trucks are available to deal with the weather Monday, according to officials. Twenty-four trucks will be available Monday night and starting at 4 a.m. Tuesday, 50 trucks will be back again to work on the roads.

Officials at the NCDOT said they are more than $10 million over budget due to the storms the state has dealt with this season. Despite that, officials said that money is no option in keeping the roads safe.
