Jags Finish 6th in 1st Tourney with New Head Coach

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – GRU Augusta finished sixth overall at the Hayt Collegiate Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club on Tuesday afternoon with Viktor Edin and Jake Marriott ending both tied for ninth to pace the Jaguars in the 15-team field. This was the first tournament for the Jaguars under new head coach Jack O'Keefe.
Edin, who led the Jags all weekend, eagled the first hole par-four and ended the day with a 3-over 75 to end the tournament at 1-over. Marriott signed for a 3-over 75 as well, birdying No. 18 to finish 1-over for the tourney and Maverick Antcliff carded three birdies in his third and final round to shoot a 3-over 75. Antcliff finished 8-over for the event tied for 41st, while Alex Wennstam shot his best round with an even-par 72 to finish 11-overall. Cody Shafer shot a 3-over 75 today, ending with a No. 18 birdie to finish 12-over for the tournament.
No. 2-ranked Oklahoma State claimed the tournament title with a new tournament record 54-hole score of 845 (282-281-282) -- Previous best was 849 by Florida (2001) and South Carolina (1998). No. 6 UCF placed second with an 855, UAB third with 859, North Texas fourth with 870, Troy fifth with 878, and GRU sixth with 879.
UCF's Greg Eason claimed the individual medalist title, also with a new tournament record 54-hole score of 205 (71-65-69) -- Previous low was 206 by UNF's David Bennett (2001) Eason edged out UAB’s Sam Love for the individual title. Eason shot a 3-under 69 to finish 11-under, while Love took second at 8-under with a round-three 73.
The Jags play host to the Forest Hills Collegiate on Saturday, March 1 at Forest Hills Golf Club. GRU Augusta will welcomeGardner-Webb, North Carolina Central, Northern Illinois, Stetson, USC Upstate, and Youngstown State or the one-day event.
