WJBF's Jennie Montgomery and Brad Means were honored to host the 2014 Annual Meeting of the United Way of the Central Savannah River Area Tuesday afternoon at the Augusta Marriott and Convention Center.
A full house of more than 600 local business leaders and community volunteers attended the luncheon, which wrapped up the organization's 2013 campaign effort to raise $4.1 million for locally funded health and human services programs.
Thomas Blanchard III, United Way's 2013 Campaign Chair, announced the total amount raised by the community was $4,128,764.
"We've seen great successes and yes, a few challenges, but overall this has been a tremendous year.
The 2013 Alvin W. Vogtle Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Rev. Edna Jones.
The 2013 Spirit of Community Award was presented to Southern Nuclear Operating Company, which raised over $265,000.
The Award of Excellence went to Savannah River Nuclear Solutions for their outstanding support of 11 United Ways throughout the CSRA,
Five companies raised over $100,000 for the 2013 campaign: Club Car, International Paper, Kellogg's, Publix Super Markets and Southern Nuclear Operating Company.
Publix was also the winner of the United Way Triple Crown, an award recognizing the best model campaign, high employee per capita giving, and high participation.
