Paine Football Secures 12 Signees in Preparation for Spring Practice

AUGUSTA, Ga. – With spring practice right around the corner for Paine College football, the coaching staff has added to their initial list of signees. The team will begin practicing for their reemergence to Division II football in the fall next week. Paine’s list of signees stands at 12 following a heavy initial recruitment for this school year and a successful season playing club football. Recruiting coordinator and safeties and special teams coach Jacob Mathis highlights some of Paine’s top recruits below.

Akil Anderson – Anderson had 23 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, one fumble recovery and one pass deflection while playing on Miami Killian’s defensive line.

“Akil is a player that has a very high motor and plays with great intensity.”

Gregory Munford – As a senior, Munford had 18 tackles and six tackles for a loss. While playing offensive guard, he added an additional 25 pancake blocks.

“Greg g is another talented young man that started both ways in high school. We expect him to come in at offensive guard and have a major effect.”

Juanye Patillo – Patillo carried the ball 129 times for 1,254 yards as a senior. He also recorded 12 touchdowns and 41 kick return yards. The all-around athlete had 77 total tackles, six tackles for a loss and three sacks.

“Juanye is a great athlete that played both ways in high school and was very productive.”

Lance Savage – At quarterback, Savage had 430 passing yards with an average of 18.58 yards per completion and one touchdown. He also had 480 rushing yards with an average of 4.65 yards per carry at five touchdowns. At wide receiver, Savage averaged 22 yards per catch with 235 total receiving yards. He also caught one touchdown pass. The all-around player also spent time at linebacker where he accumulated 41 tackles.

“Lance is an all-around athlete who played multiple positions and did whatever was needed of him to help the team win. He is a great team player.”

Kevin Wheaton – In high school, Wheaton played strong safety and had 40 tackles, 15 pass break ups, seven tackles for a loss, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.

“Kevin is a very disruptive defensive player that we as a staff are very excited about.”

Kendal White – White lived in Panama City, Fla., before transferring to the CSRA and playing for Lakeside. Last season her recorded 75 tackles, 13 of which were for a loss. White also had four sacks, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one touchdown.

“We expect Kendall to come in this fall and be an impact player for us at defensive end.”

Erick Wright – Wright had 41 tackles, 18 pass breakups,  11 interceptions (two returned for touchdowns, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

“Erick is a phenomenal secondary player that was highly recruited across the country this year. We could not be more excited to see the things this young man will do on the field.”
