Augusta, GA -
The Golden Harvest Food Bank won’t know the full effects of the ice storm on their mission just yet – but they know they are fighting an uphill battle in the aftermath of the ice storm.
Food pantries were depleted as the nonprofit organization struggled to distribute food and faced a dip in donations due to the weather and power outages. Now, the organization is hoping for increased generosity from their neighbors.
"It’s created a great situation for all of our 300 pantries that we serve, also," said Travis McNeal of Golden Harvest. "They’re the ones out on the front line, being the hands and feet, and actually distributing food that they get from Golden Harvest Food Bank. So as their pantries are depleted and their funds are depleted, they’re looking to the food bank at this time to help provide for them.”
The best way to help the food bank is to make an online donation at GoldenHarvest.org. Just $1 can actually distribute $7 worth of food.
During the storm, Georgia Power made a contribution that helped the food bank replenish their emergency supplies.
