UPDATED ON 6: Wagener Man Charged In Death Of Toddler

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office has charged a 34-year-old Wagener man with Homicide by Child Abuse in the death of a toddler.

Leon Marquis Davis was charged Monday in the toddler's death.

Around 9:03 a.m. on Friday, deputies responded to 337 Camp Rawls Road with Aiken County EMS after receiving a 911 call from Davis.

EMS and the responding deputies found the child to be unresponsive and transported the child to an area hospital for emergency treatment.

Investigators were called to the hospital, where it was reported the child had injuries that were consistent with signs of abuse. Davis was arrested at the hospital for 3 outstanding Family Court bench warrants. Investigators were notified on Sunday that the child had died as a result of his injuries.

Davis is currently in the custody at the Aiken County Detention Center.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton tells us, an Aiken County toddler has died from abuse.

The toddler, from Wagener, was pronounced dead at Georgia Regents Medical Center Pediatric ICU Sunday at 10:02 a.m., after the child was discovered to have incurred a significant brain injury.

An autopsy performed Monday morning in Newberry, South Carolina confirmed that the cause of death was due to blunt force trauma.

The investigation is in its early stages at the present time, according to Carlton. The child's death has been ruled a homicide.

The Aiken County Coroner's Office and Aiken County Sheriff's Office are currently investigating this death and further information will be released when it becomes available.
