UPDATED ON 6: Body Pulled From Augusta Canal Identified

We now know the identity of the body pulled out of the Augusta Canal Sunday afternoon.

Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen tells us the victim of the possible drowning has been identified as 49-year-old Michael Glen Sterns, of Wapakoneta, Ohio.

Sterns was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

Sterns is scheduled for an autopsy at the GBI Atlanta Lab Tuesday or Wednesday.

Bowen tells us, it appears that Sterns was homeless and living under a bridge near the incident location.

A body was discovered in the Augusta Canal shortly after 1:30 Sunday afternoon.

Authorities said that they do know the identity of the deceased person, but that they are not releasing that person's name until after his family has been notified.

They do not believe this was a case of foul play, but they are still investigating.
