Pope, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene just before 2 a.m. Detectives say the deceased was operating his bicycle properly, had working lights on it and was wearing a reflective vest. The driver of the pick-up truck failed to stop.

According to a PCSO report Pope was struck from behind as he was traveling north along the roadway. He was either carried by the suspect vehicle or thrown approximately 100 feet. Pope landed in a ditch where he died.

A witness in the area reported hearing the crash. The pick-up truck may be silver or white in color.
