As Helms College continues to grow as the first nationally accredited and Title IV-GI Bill eligible college operated by any Goodwill in the world, a new sister institution has been created as the umbrella of the health science and aesthetic arts programs added with the August 2013 purchase of the former American Professional Institute.
Helms College encompasses certificate, diploma and degree-level culinary arts programs and future educational initiatives that are nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET).
The new Helms Career Institute will oversee the School of Health, with programs including medical assistant, patient care technician, surgical technician, pharmacy technician and massage therapy, while the School of Beauty includes programs in barbering, cosmetology, cosmetology instructor and nail tech. All of the programs are nationally accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE).
Helms Career Institute programs currently are offered at campuses in Macon and Milledgeville, with future expansion planned for other campuses within Goodwill's 35-county service area including the CSRA.
Financial aid is available to students who qualify, including Federal Financial Aid Goodwill Tuition Assistance programs.
All programs currently are enrolling, with the next round of Helms College culinary classes starting April 14. Open house will be held 10am to 2pm March 19, and 2-6 pm March 20, at the Helms College, Augusta Campus, 3145 Washington Road, at Fury's Ferry Road.
