Pacers Lead Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate After Day 1

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The No. 2 University of South Carolina Aiken men’s golf team leads the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate by six strokes after the first day of competition.
The Pacers opened the tournament, which is on a par-72, 6,913-yard course, with a first-round tally of 297. The squad followed it up with a 296 over the next 18 holes for a 36-hole tally of 593.
USC Aiken is currently 17-over par, but leads the Division I field by six strokes.
Kyle Godsman and Brandon Robinson-Thompson are each tied for second at the tournament as both are three strokes off the lead. Both shot an opening-day total of 146. Robinson-Thompson opened with a 71 before coming home with a 75 while Godsman shot a two-over par score over the first 18 holes before hitting even par over the next 18.
Joar Bjelkhom is tied for 12th after firing a two-round tally of 149. Andrew Ward is three strokes behind him after carding an opening-day 152 score. Ward is tied for 28th.
Hayden Letien is tied for 32nd after shooting an opening-day 153.
Charleston Southern is second with a 599 while Elon (601), Presbyterian College (601) and Radford (602) round out the top five of the 17-team field.
The Pacers return to action tomorrow for the final day of the tournament.
