Family, friends mourn driver in deadly wrong-way I-275 crash

While friends and family mourn the loss of four USF fraternity brothers killed in a wrong-way crash Sunday, another person is being remembered as well.

The family and friends of Daniel Lee Morris, the driver who caused that horrific crash and also died, are mourning his death.

Morris' sister, Katie Matthews, lives in Ashland, Kentucky. She says it's hard to come to grips with the death of a loved one, when that person is responsible for the deaths of four others.

"People find that my brother is a murderer and a horrible person, there's a lot of backlash. So it's not easy to just grieve and move on when people are telling you how horrible your brother is," said Matthews.

She says her brother was at a birthday celebration just hours before the crash. "He was out celebrating and he might have been slightly intoxicated, but he wasn't suicidal, and he wasn't crazy. He wasn't violent or anything."

Scott Enfinger owns the Ford Expedition that Morris was driving when he hit the car containing the USF fraternity brothers.

Enfinger issued a statement through his attorney that said in part, "Mr. Scott Enfinger expresses his deepest sympathies and condolences to the families and friends of the victims in this tragedy. Mr. Enfinger stands with the families of this tragedy in attempting to determine why Daniel Morris was driving into oncoming traffic."

A woman who lives with Enfinger called 911 once she discovered the Expedition was missing. Because of privacy laws, authorities are not releasing her name.

Katie Matthews says she can't but help wonder, "Why?"

"He's just moved back to Florida, he'd just gotten a new job and he was happy," said Matthews.

"Just trying to make it understandable, just try to reason it out and just try to figure out why it happened the way it did."
