As of late Tuesday morning, the various winter advisories have been updated by the National Weather Service.  Most of our counties in Georgia will be under a Freezing Rain Advisory or a Winter Storm Warning, beginning either tonight or Wednesday.

The chilly rain we've been experiencing should taper off later this afternoon.  Then as the second wave of this winter storm moves in, expect the rain to pick up tonight.  A cold air "wedge" will bring colder air down upon most of Georgia and part of Alabama on brisk northeast winds tonight and Wednesday, sending temperatures into the 30s but remaining above the freezing mark through the day Wednesday.  Most of our area will experience a cold, all-day rain on Wednesday.

Although temperatures should remain above freezing, the dividing line will be close enough that we'll be monitoring closely the temperatures here at the surface, since only a couple of degrees variation could result in the potential for icy conditions.

More likely, problems could arise Wednesday night and early Thursday as the very wet conditions move out of the area and temperatures drop.  There could even be a brief change to snow early Thursday, with no accumulation expected.  Water on roads potentially could freeze with the subfreezing temperatures we are forecasting for Thursday morning.

Watch for frequent updates from the FirstAlert weather team over the next couple of days.
