McCrory declares state of emergency for NC

Posted: Updated:

Gov. Pat McCrory declared a state of emergency in North Carolina on Tuesday as a winter storm bore down on the state.

McCrory said the unpredictable nature of the storm made it difficult for the state to target logistical support to areas that might need it. He also said the likely mix of snow and ice was a concern as well.

McCrory urged North Carolinians to have adequate food on hand in case of emergency and to not travel once the storm arrives if at all possible.

Tony Tata, the secretary of the Department of Transportation, said the DOT has about 2,000 employees on the road now in 700 trucks. He said 1.9 million gallons of brine had been put out on roads in the last 24 hours in addition to tons of sand.
