Man killed by police following chase in Hope Mills

HOPE MILLS, N.C. -

A man was shot and killed by police following a high-speed chase in Hope Mills early Saturday, authorities said. 

Hope Mills police attempted to stop a car around 1 a.m. but the car sped off, authorities said. Following a brief chase, the driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Kevin Dejon Grissett, rammed police vehicles near Snow Hill Road.

Law enforcement fired shots at the vehicle, hitting and wounding Grissett, authorities said.

Grissett was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries, authorities said.

A passenger in Grissett's car ran away and has not been found.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
