On Thursday morning, Donquell Green sent out the following Tweet:
"@GatorGreen_5: Through this hard process I have come down too this .. I will be attending THE university of Marshall !!! #HerdNation"
And with that the lightning quick Burke County all-purpose back concluded his long recruitment process. Green chose the Thundering Herd over eight other Division I offers from schools like North Carolina, Georgia tech and Appalachian State.
Green helped the Bears to a GHSA AAA state championship as a sophomore and earned the WJBF ALL-CSRA Player of the Year Award as a junior after leading his team to the state semifinals. He was electrifying on the field - rushing for 1,827 yards and passing for 1,399 yards in 2012. This year, he relinquished some of his defensive duties but still led the Bears to a 9-3 season and another GHSA AAAA quarterfinals appearance.
Burke County scored 40+ points 12 times over the past two seasons - and Green now joins another high scoring offense at Marshall, which averaged 41.2 points per game in 2013.
