Due to the wintry weather and low temperatures, area law enforcement officials are reporting road closures and gridlock. It's tough going out there. All law enforcement is asking folks to stay home until road conditions improve.

As of 8:30 pm Tuesday, the Alabama Department of Transportation reported five closed roads and 37 impassable roads due to Wednesday's weather event from around the state.

Less than half are in Central Alabama. The only closed road is in Tuscaloosa County. It's Highway 7 and US 11 Black Warrior River Bridge at Foster's.

The impassable roads are:
I-65 between mile markers 198 and 226 in Chilton County
Highway 13/US 43 to the Fayette County line in Tuscaloosa County
Highway 6 east at County Road 66 in Tuscaloosa County
Highway 69/Highway 6 to Tuscaloosa County line in Tuscaloosa County
Highway 7/US 11 from Tuscaloosa to Jefferson County line in Tuscaloosa County
I-359 - the entire route in Tuscaloosa County
The Cleburne County EMA has issued a countywide curfew of all non-essential travel between TuesTuesday until Wednesday 6am. The curfew does not apply to those going to work, need medical services, or necessary type of travel.
Other road closures include: Chilton County, Hueytown, Midfield, Oneonta and Sylacauga have closed the roads in their areas.

Highway 119 from Alabaster to Montavallo is closed.

Shelby County also has a long list of icy conditions and slick roads. According to the Shelby County EMA, no roads are closed but you should avoid these anyway: HWY 280, north of Chelsea, near the Narrows, westbound, Double Oak Mountain westbound, Hwy 70, between Calera and Columbiana
