***UPDATED at 4:14 P.M. on Tuesday, January 28th***

Due to inclement weather and potential travel hazards, Shepeard Community Blood Center is closing all Centers at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28th. All three Centers will reopen on Wednesday, January 29th at 12:00 PM and resume regular operating hours.

The approaching Winter Storm has resulted in lower donations this week at Centers and caused the cancellation of blood drives that should have brought in over 200 donations.  However, patients in our local hospitals will still be in need, unless you respond.

Shepeard Community Blood Center, the only contracted local blood provider for 20 area hospitals from Barnwell, SC to Baxley, GA, needs blood donors today to help meet the needs of our area's patients. In order to support these 20 hospitals, Shepeard needs to collect 144 units of blood each and every day. The blood must be donated, processed and on the shelf before it is needed, so donors are needed right now. All blood types are needed.

In addition to the regular need, there are patients in the burn center with significant need for not only blood but Plasma and Platelets.

Donors are asked to suply a picture I.D. in order to give blood. Donors must be 17 years old or older without parental permission, or 16 years old with a signed parental consent form. Parental Consent form is available at all centers and bloodmobiles as well as a printable form here.

There are 2 donation centers in the Augusta area and one in Aiken. For a center or bloodmobile near you, log on to Shepeardblood.org. Appointments are available but not necessary.
