Posted: Updated:
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – After playing to a draw at halftime, the University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 72-48 decision at Georgia College Wednesday evening in a Peach Belt Conference contest.

The Pacers are now 4-13 overall, including a 2-6 record in league play.

Head coach Mike Brandt's team was paced by
Courtney Mealing and Mackenzie Reese, who each netted 11 points to share team-high honors. The tandem was the only two that reached double figures for the Pacers. Mariah Durian chipped in eight points while Amaura Brandt and Tiffany Addison had five and four points, respectively.

Mealing led the team with six rebounds while Brandt had five.
Kassy Johannsen amassed two of the team's four blocks.

USC Aiken netted just 17-of-57 shots from the floor (29.8 percent), but managed to connect on seven-of-16 from downtown (43.8 percent). The squad also drilled seven-of-nine from the foul line (77.8 percent).

The Pacers trailed or tied the score for much of the first half, but the team did not register its first lead of the contest until Reese hit a jumper with 2:51 to play in the opening half. Her basket gave the team a 23-21 lead.

Georgia College reeled off four straight points for a two-point edge only to see Mealing make a twisting lay-up with seven ticks remaining in the half, tying the game at 25 apiece heading to intermission.

The home team scored the first eight points of the final period, but Mealing's three-point bucket trimmed the deficit to five at 33-28.

Carly Gilreath hammered home a three-point bucket at the 16:24 mark, bringing Brandt's team within two at 33-31. The squads traded three-point baskets before the Bobcats embarked on a 6-0 run, taking a strong 42-34 lead with 12:27 to go.

USC Aiken continued to fight hard, but the team was unable to trim the lead the rest of the way.

The Pacers return to action Saturday at 1:30 p.m., at Francis Marion.
