Local Airport Mascot Could Travel The World

Augusta, GA -

I just got some cool news from our friends at the airport and wanted to share it with our viewers and website visitors.

Augusta Regional Airport is introducing a mascot program to honor a four-legged friend and employee.

Mayday was a border collie that chased birds out of harm's way when she worked at the airport.  Now, she will be represented by two traveling plush border collie companions. Their names are Mayday and Little Miss Mayday.

Mayday's goal is to visit all 50 states in the U.S. as well as 10 countries.  In a news release, airport Communications Manager Lauren Smith says Mayday will become a hitchhiker with the goal of visiting all 50 states in the U.S. and 10 different countries.

Smith says the plush doggie will hitch rides with pilots and/or passengers transiting through general aviation terminals located in airports around the world.

What about Little Miss Mayday?  In the release, Smith says she will be temporarily adopted out to select youngsters within the CSRA to accompany them on their family vacation.

Students from first through eighth grade who want to take part in the program need to write a one page essay. The topic is  why they believe Little Miss Mayday should go with them on their family's next vacation.
