An Augusta woman is helping to feed her neighbors, but it's not just food she's dishing out. Patsy Skinner is in her fifth year of serving meals from her porch. She does it every Wednesday.
Skinner served 165 meals on Wednesday, her highest number ever. Every year, she prepares gifts and treats along with the meal before Christmas.
Bobbie Nelson, Jr. describes his neighbor, Patsy, as a "God-sent."
He has been coming to get a hot meal from her porch since she started in 2008. Not only as she helped him financially, but also as a friend.
"She's a very inspirational person to look up to, in my case she's like a mother figure to me, my mother passed, so she's like a mother too," said Nelson.
He says hundreds of people have been helped in the neighborhood since she started giving out food on her porch.
"It could be anything, if she can do it, she's going to do it," said Nelson.
Over the years, Skinner and her husband expanded the porch to the entire driveway. They provide clothes, shoes, and toys.
She said a lot of people in her neighborhood live day by day, and she wants to help that need.
"I started with 12 tuna fish sandwiches," said Skinner.
Those 12 sandwiches have now grown to more than 100 meals every Wednesday.
Skinner said donations from local churches and random people help her reach different needs every week.
"If somebody comes up there to get there meal and they say I need a pair of work boots, my boots are tore up, then by the next week, just magically… a pair of boots his size appear," said Skinner.
Skinner said as long as she sees a need, she's will keep going.
"I never thought when I started it that I would be doing it for 5 years or more. Everyone says when are you going quit? I say when God tells me, I got to quit" said Skinner.
