Warriors 4 Wireless: Keeping Your Phone Signal Strong, While Helping Vets Get Jobs

Posted: Updated:
Aiken County, SC -

Over the next three years, the department of defense estimates more than 5,000 cell phone tower technicians will be needed - and who better to fill those boots than our service men and women whose boots have been on the ground around the world:

"I've been around the world, Iraq a couple times, and now I'm here," said veteran Daniel Roman.

But getting back here, home isn't always easy:

"I've been unemployed for two years after active duty," he said.  "I've been looking for jobs, trying to get jobs, nobody calls you back."

Daniel served 14 years active duty in the US Army; now he and other vets are using their skills as Warriors4Wireless.  These veterans are talented:  They can climb, they can build, and they can work together.

"Veterans are great employees," said Aiken Technical College Dean John Grove.  "The military gives them a lot of soft skills.  One of the things you learn quickly in the military because you can't get away from people."

"Being reliable, showing up, doing right, timely, that's what bringing in vets what they can expect," Roman added.

And what Daniel can expect, a career that puts his life back on track:

"I'm going to be happy just to pay my bills again, just a simple thing paying bills, being able to pay your rent on time."

That doesn't mean it'll come easy, up there working under pressure:

"It's demanding work, you see the gear they're wearing and carrying anywhere from 40-60 pounds, 60 to 200 feet," Grove explained.  "It's not for the feint of heart, the people in poor physical shape."

Then again, neither is the military:

"No it's not,"  Grove laughed.  "This is easier, being deployed your life is pretty much on the line every single day."
