SC teacher sent nude photos to boy and asked him to buy drugs, deputies say

HILTON HEAD, SC (WSAV) -- -
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says a teacher was arrested after
the parents of a 16 year old boy filed a complaint with the school
resource officer Tuesday.
The complaint was triggered by police learning of what they believed to be an
inappropriate relationship between the boy and a 23-year-old Spanish teacher.
BCSO says the contact apparently began at school where the victim was a student in Margaret Lamantia's Spanish class.
The two initially exchanged phone numbers just prior to the
Thanksgiving holiday and began communicating with each other via text
message, authorities said.
Then between November 29th and 30th, Lamantia allegedly texted a
picture of her genitalia, via the Snap Chat application, to the victim's
At some point, BCSO says, Lamantia had the victim purchase a small
amount of marijuana and she picked him up from the Island Rec Center.
After learning that their son had been fired from his job at the rec
center because he smelled like marijuana, the victim's parents began
And it was during that questioning that the boy allegedly told his parents of his relationship with Lamantia.
Lamantia is charged with one count of Contributing to the Delinquency
of a Minor and one count of Disseminating Harmful Material to a Minor.
Lamantia was a long-term substitute Spanish teacher at the high school,
according to Jim Foster with the Beaufort County School District. This
was her first year teaching but she no longer works there.
