Augusta, GA -
One little girl didn't have to wait to unwrap her biggest Christmas present this year. She got her special gift on Wednesday when she went to visit Santa Claus at the Augusta Mall.
Specialist Justin Myers has been in Afghanistan for the past 6 months. Since then he's been missing his family - including his 4-year-old daughter Christine.
"I just want to go see my daughter like now, ya know. It's just been 6 months a little too long for me,” said Spc. Myers.
Justin and his wife, Ashley, organized the set-up at the Santa display with the help of the Augusta Mall staff. While he waited with us in a room off to the side, Christine waited to see Santa right outside the door.
"I'll be home for Christmas and New Year's with my daughter, and I will also be home for her birthday, which is next month,” said Spc. Myers.
Those are special moments he hopes to make up for this month. Serving in the military, he's missed Christine's first time crawling and walking, and this year, her first day of preschool.
While she sat on Santa's lap asking for her biggest Christmas wish, Spc. Myers could barely wait another minute to hold his daughter. When the two reunited, the smiles and tears could not be wiped away from either of their faces.
"Oh I love it! I was definitely tearing up,” said Spc. Myers.
Spc. Myers said he is lucky to be home for the holidays because he was scheduled to come home in March. Due to surplus personnel, they sent him home early.
