First Med lays off eastern Carolina employees

Posted: Updated:
KINSTON, N.C. - Some people in Lenoir County are out of a job tonight after finding out their company no longer needs their services.

Patricia Forbush from Kinston says her husband found out Sunday he was being laid off from his job at First Med.

First Med is a medical services company based in Wilmington, with several locations here in the east.

A public information officer says the company laid off employees after filing for bankruptcy.

Forbush says her husband worked as an EMT for First Med's Kinston office. She's worried about her family's ability to survive.

"It's drastic. His was the only income that we had coming in, and we have other children to take care of. It's really hard. I'm a full time student so we were dependent on his income," said Patricia Forbush, whose husband was laid off from First Med.

Forbush says many employees like her husband were given short notice about the layoff.

9 On Your Side made several phone calls to First Med's CEO and Wilmington office, but those calls have not been returned.
