UPDATED ON 6: Charges Upgraded After Student Dies From Being Struck By Vehicle

New information has come into the WJBF News Channel 6 Newsroom.  Charges against 20-year-old Scott William Hancock have been upgraded to Vehicular Homicide in the First Degree by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office Traffic Division following the death of 8-year-old Jaidyn Williams.

On December 9th Hancock reportedly struck Williams as the child was crossing Belair Road. Williams was transported to Georgia Regents University where he died from injuries.

WJBF News Channel 6 has learned that 8-year-old Jaidyn Williams has died from injuries after being hit by a vehicle earlier this month.

The Sue Reynolds Elementary School student was struck by a car at his bush stop. Williams was walking Westbound on Belair Road when a van failed to yield for the bus. He was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center following the accident.

The driver of the van, 20-year-old Scott William Hancock, is charged with reckless driving and failure to stop for a school bus. Other charges are currently pending.

New information has come to light concerning a student being hit by a vehicle in Richmond County Monday morning.

We are told, upon the arrival of deputies on the scene of the incident, Richmond County School Bus #72 was stopped facing east on the 3800 block of Belair Road with all visual signals activated.

An 8-year-old male student from Sue Reynolds Elementary School was walking south across the westbound lanes of Belair Road, when a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country Van, driven by 20-year-old Scott William Hancock, was traveling westbound on the 3800 Block of Belair Road and failed to stop for the school bus.

The van struck the student, who was then transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment and is now listed in critical condition.

Hancock has been found at fault of this accident for "Failure to stop for a School Bus while Loading and Unloading", and Richmond County Sheriff's Office investigators say further charges are pending at this time.

We have learned new information concerning a student who was struck by a vehicle in Richmond County Monday morning.

Around 7:11 a.m., deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office Traffic Division responded to Wrightsboro Road at Ashbury Drive regarding a traffic accident, according to Sergeant Michael Mcdonald, with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived on scene, they learned that an eastbound school bus was stopped on Wrightsboro Road at Ashbury Drive with the school bus' "Caution Equipment and Lights" in use, allowing students to enter the school bus. A vehicle traveling westbound on Wrightsboro Road failed to stop for the school bus' caution equipment, which caused the vehicle to strike a child.

The child has since been transported to the Georgia Regents Medical Center Emergency Room for medical treatment.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office Traffic Division and STAR Team are currently investigating this traffic accident.

Richmond County deputies are on the scene of an accident involving a Sue Reynolds Elementary school student. 

At approximately 7:15 AM, a student was struck by a Dodge van while waiting for the bus. The child has been transported to a local hospital. The extent of the victim's injuries is unknown. No word on if the driver of the vehicle involved will face charges.
