Braselton, GA -
"I'm sure they had some thought behind this", says Captain Michael Steffman, of the Braselton Police Department.
In surveillance video from the Hamilton State Bank Thanksgiving morning, Braselton Police say two thieves us a pickup truck to brace the ATM, then ram the front end loader right into the ATM, picking it up right off its footings.
"They've had to have some kind of experience because, as you can see, it only took them a few tries to get it lined upright..." says Capt. Steffman. "They just punctured holes right in there," we asked. "Yeah, they just took the forks of the boom of the forklift and drived it right into the top of the atm machine."
Police say the front end loader used in the crime was parked back at the construction site where it was taken from just a short distance from the bank.
While the crime was caught on video, investigators have not been able to get a good glimpse of the suspects, or the truck's tag...and much to their dismay, no one else apparently did either.
"You have a 20,000 pound construction equipment driving down the middle of 211 at 3:00 a.m. and you're oblivious to why they are doing that," says Capt. Steffman.
Detectives say the thieves timed their hit perfectly, finding an ATM stuffed with cash on the holiday weekend. Being that it was on Thanksgiving morning and Black Friday the next day they said there were roughly $9,000 in the ATM.
