Private DNA crime lab opens in Greenville

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Greenville welcomed its newest business to town Wednesday afternoon.

The Center for Advanced Forensic DNA Analysis is a private crime lab police agencies from around the country can turn to for help in complex cases.

CEO Michael Heffernan says their advanced technology can separate mix-DNA found on something like a door handle.

The lab picked Greenville over the Triangle where they felt they might be lost.

Currently they employ ten people, with plans to expand to over 140 employees in the next few years.

The new crime lab clients already include the city of Chicago, the states of North Carolina and Michigan, as well as Homeland Security.
