Fans toss teddy bears onto the ice, give back to their community

BAKERSFIELD, CA -

The Bakersfield Condors, a minor league hockey team, were counting on the community this weekend and now they're counting the results.

Saturday was the annual Teddy Bear Toss game where fans throw stuffed animals onto the ice after the first goal.

All the bears are counted then distributed through different charities via The United Way.

The final tally is 7,477.  It’s the fourth best of all time.

Ryan Holt with the Condors says they usually collect the most bears in the league, and they couldn't do it without the support of the community.

“Bakersfield comes out for this,” he said.  “Other teams, other organizations will have this but we like to think ours is the best in the league.”

Bakersfield ended up winning the game 6-3.
