***UPDATED at 3:51 P.M. on Tuesday, November 26th***

In news across the CSRA, we have new information about the fatal plane crash that happened in Edgefield County Monday evening.

The pilot is identified as 56-year-old Richard Showalter, from Graniteville.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is taking an in-depth look at the plane at the Twin Lakes Air Executive Park airport, in Trenton.Officials say this is a departure of the normal course of action because of the wet weather conditions.

Along with the weather Monday night, the NTSB will be looking at the fuel system, the flight control system and the structure of the aircraft. The investigation will also include talking to witnesses, who are telling officials they did hear a plane in the area that was sputtering around 6:00 p.m.

We will have the latest information on the investigation into the crash during our Tuesday evening newscasts.

One person is dead after a plane crash near Rachel Avenue in Trenton, South Carolina. Investigators don't know what caused the plane crash, but they say it happened just after 6:00 p.m. Monday night.

"We have a single fatality from what appears to be a private plane that has crashed," Edgefield County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Mike Casey said.

Although details are limited, investigators say a twin-engine plane crashed in the woods near the Twin Lakes Air Executive Park in Edgefield County. Investigators say they have identified the pilot, but will not release his name at this time.

"The next of kin has not been notified at this time so we are withholding the name because of that. The coroner's office will be sending the remains for an autopsy," Casey said.

Federal authorities are on their way to investigate the crash.

"The scene will be secure overnight until they get here, if they choose to wait until tomorrow, that's their decision, but we have been in touch with them," Casey said.

Right now, investigators don't know what caused the crash, but are interviewing people who live in the area to find out if they saw anything.

"Words to the effect from at least one person that saw the plane, it appeared that it had some type of engine trouble. We're going to research that some more, and the NTSB, once they examine the plane, they will be able to tell us more about that, but it appears that there was some type of problem while he was in the air rather than on take-off or landing," Casey said.

The National Transportation Safety Board will be conducting the investigation.
