No, this isn't an ice skating rink, it's a tub of drinking water for pets at the Aiken Equine Rescue.
The temperature dropped so low this ice had to be broken so the dogs and horses could get a sip of water.
Jim Rhodes is the President of the Aiken Equine Rescue and he says checking on your pet should be your first priority when the mercury drops below the freezing mark.
"You need to make sure that their environment is comfortable
for them. They need to have doghouses provided and in that dog house either put
a blanket in that dog house," said Rhodes.
Rhodes says shelter for your pet is very important. A sturdy structure with heat lamps for the Winter months is a big help.
"You need to put shavings or some straw in there so they can maintain their body temperature and their warmth. So that they have a way to get out of the elements," said Rhodes.
Rhodes says the time to get ready for Tuesday's storm and a potentially long Winter ahead is now.
"It's a big concern and those kind of situations you have to keep up with the weather and make sure you have water available because you may lose your water," said Rhodes.
Rhodes says you might notice your pets becoming less thirsty as the weather gets colder and so does their drinking water.
But that can be fixed with this salt block to make them thirsty and a hose.
"So if you can warm the water for them they like that better and that keeps them from getting sick and makes them drink more," said Rhodes.
