Pre-Black Friday Rush Begins

Posted: Updated:
Augusta, GA -

If you think the rush for seasonal shopping already creeps in on Thanksgiving a little too quickly with Black Friday—brace yourselves. Some stores have already started slashing prices to jumpstart sales.

There are already giant crowds taking advantage of pre-Black Friday sales. This year, chain companies and local stores are starting the deals early, even staying open on Thanksgiving Day.

Big box stores like Walmart, and local stores in the CSRA, are starting sales before Black Friday hits.

Some people are happy to get the steals early, like Baronda Leogrande. "Absolutely if I can get those sales before Thursday, that would be great," she said.

Others are a little more skeptical of Black Friday creeping up early.

"It just seems like so many people are out today, and yesterday was worse. You would have thought yesterday was Black Friday," said Dara Harrison.

"Our culture is such an on-demand, have it now, have it earlier, have it sooner...when we want it kind of thing…maybe that's the demand that they are trying to fulfill," said Ryan Green.

Locally-owned Cudos is filling that need and filling the store early. General Manager Sloane Wiggins said this year she found that a lot of the other stores in Augusta were starting their Black Friday sales early, so she added an additional sale.

"Everybody's opening on Thanksgiving Day this year, which has never happened before. The mall is going to be open on Thanksgiving Day and that hasn't happened before, so we're finding that everything is starting earlier, and earlier, and earlier," said Wiggins.

The National Retail Federation estimated 97 million shoppers will be out on Black Friday, while 33 million shoppers plan to be out on Thanksgiving Day.
