UPDATED ON 6: Latest Information On Hephzibah Burglary Suspects Search, School Lockdown

New information has come to light concerning the search for burglary suspects in Hephzibah Friday that resulted in at least one school in the area being put on lockdown.

A Richmond County Sheriff's Office spokesperson tells WJBF News Channel 6, around 1:00 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to 5178 Henderson Road, in Hephzibah, in reference to an attempted burglary in progress.

Upon arrival, it was learned that the suspects had left the scene travelling in a blue Toyota Corolla. Responding deputies in the area spotted the vehicle and a pursuit ensued.

The vehicle was abandoned by the suspects on Brothersville Road and the suspects ran inside Hephzibah High School, in an attempt to getaway, according to the spokesperson.

As a result, Hephzibah High School and surrounding schools were immediately placed on lockdown. Two of the suspects were apprehended immediately and the third suspect was able to get back to the vehicle and a second short pursuit occurred with this suspect being apprehended after crashing the vehicle at Highway 88 and Jones Street.

At the time of this story being published, the three suspects were linked two other burglaries in the neighborhood.

All three suspects, 28-year-old Jakota Little, of the 2600 block of Roosevelt Drive in Augusta; 29-year-old David Corey Lawrence of the 200 block of 227 Fox Trace in Augusta; and 24-year-old Dechan Antonio Newton, of the 2900 block of Edison Drive in Augusta, will be charged with 1 count each of Criminal Attempt Burglary, 2 counts each of Burglary,  1 count each of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Further charges may follow.

WJBF News Channel 6 has learned that Hephzibah High School is no longer on lockdown and students have been allowed to leave school to go home.

WJBF News Channel 6 has learned that Hephzibah High School is on lockdown, according to an employee at the school.

Dispatchers confirmed that Richmond County Sheriff's Office deputies were chasing at least one burglary suspect near the school Friday afternoon, when at least one suspect got out of the car and ran.

The school was then placed on lockdown.
