ATLANTA (AP) - Police say a DeKalb County officer working with the U.S. Marshals has been shot in the leg in southwest Atlanta.

Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said Thursday morning that the officer was shot on Diana Drive, about six miles south of downtown Atlanta.

Jones says the officer has been taken to the Atlanta Medical Center.

U.S. Marshals Chief Inspector Keith Booker told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/19KdC3T ) the officer was serving drug warrants when he was shot in his lower left calf.

Booker says the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Titus Bates, shot through the door as police were preparing to enter his home.

Booker says Bates' criminal history dates back to 1992 and includes more than a dozen drug arrests.

Authorities say the injured officer is expected to recover.
