Many people in the community are joining forces to feed neighbors, friends, and family in the CSRA.
The Golden Harvest Food Bank put on a telethon this year to reach their goal of $100,000. Any donations made between $5 and $1,000 will be tripled through their partnership with Bank of America.
When Augusta Prep faculty and students found out about the goal last week, they quickly came together to come up with a plan to raise money.
Director of Development Pam Weinberger says the students each brought in two dollars to reach the one-thousand mark.
"I am so impressed, in fact it really is amazing that these people took the time out of their day, out of their piggy banks, out of their check books, their lunch money, and they gave us the money… so they all came together," said Weinberger
Augusta Prep student Ethan Confer says he's excited to be part of such a huge community initiative.
"It means a lot because our school we are really fortunate to get a nice education like this, and we have plenty of food to spare, it's just a really good opportunity to give back and we can really appreciate what we have," said Confer
With this money, Executive Director Travis McNeal says they will easily be able to feed hundreds of people through the holiday season.
"Golden Harvest Food Bank is able to distribute seven dollars worth of food for every dollar donated, so just do the math, the 100- thousand dollars can be turned into a lot of distributed meals throughout our 30 counties," said McNeal.
McNeal said they have reached their goal of $100,000 and are continuing to take more donations.
