Richmond County Sheriff's Office investigators have arrested a female robbery suspect, they say stole money from and assaulted an elderly woman.
Investigators say, around midnight Wednesday night, deputies responded to the 3300 block of Blanchard Road, in Augusta, in reference to a robbery of the the home of a 78-year-old woman.
Upon deputies' arrival, they learned that earlier during the day, 34-year-old Latasha Michelle Rouse, of 2515 Georgetown Drive, and an acquaintance of the victim from the neighborhood, came by the victim's residence to borrow money to pay Rouse's Georgia Power bill.
The victim reportedly loaned Rouse the money and even drove Rouse to the Georgia Power building on Walton Way to pay the bill. At approximately, 11:30 p.m., the victim reportedly heard a knock on her front door and went to the door to see who it was. Invesitgators say, unbeknownst to the victim, it was Rouse at her front door posing as her next door neighbor and claiming she was hurt.
The victim told deputies she cracked open the front door and Rouse pushed her way into the residence, knocking the victim into the wall and eventually to the ground.
According to the incident report, Rouse then stole an undisclosed amount of money from the victim's purse and ran from the scene.
Investigators subsequently apprehended Rouse at her residence. During the investigation, it was learned that Rouse did not use the money she initially received from the victim to pay the power bill, but instead purchased narcotics.
Rouse is currently being held in the Richmond County Jail on the charges of Robbery by Force and Possession of Cocaine.
The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries to her head and lower back.
