Scooter driver seriously injured in Raleigh hit-and-run

RALEIGH, N.C. -

A woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run in Raleigh at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Rock Quarry Road.

Raleigh police said Ana Kessel, 20, was traveling northbound on her scooter on Rock Quarry Rd. Monday afternoon around 2:45 p.m. when she was hit by sedan while attempting to turn left onto Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

The driver of the sedan, Michael Deontea Jones, 23, fled the scene but was located a short time later by authorities.

Kessel was taken to WakeMed with serious injuries.

Jones has been charged with felony hit-and-run and with driving without a valid license. Jones was taken to the Wake County Detention Center.
