A young singer visited Ursla-Collins Elementary School today to help inner city kids learn the importance of anti-bullying. News channel six's Dee Griffin was there to see what this gospel singer had to say.
At 16 years old, Jekalyn Carr is small in stature, but, big in inspiration. During a time when most teens are out making friends, Jekalyn is making music and ministering to people around the country both young and old.
Jekalyn Carr explains, "It's just an inspiration just to help them. So, they inspire me just as much as I inspire them."
While performing in Augusta, Jekalyn brought her message of non-violence and anti-bullying to students at Collins Elementary. Jekalyn hopes her message plants a seed that will produce positive results. "There is potential upon their life. They are already anointed for greatness. In spite of everything around, the negativity, even in school. It's your choice. You have to say "I'm going to overcome this" because I believe there is a great future ahead of me and I'm going to push through anything that I have to just so I can get there," she smiles.
During her message to the students, she encourages them to rise above challenges that may try to pull them low. Although she's just a few years older than the students sitting in front of her, Jekalyn is using opportunities like these to take a stand.
She's using her message and ministry to change hundreds of lives. The most recent example was during a local revival on Thursday night. Carr describes the service saying, "the alter was filled with people. They were crying out to God. It was amazing in my eyes. Just to know how much they were blessed and empowered to walk into their future and be all that God has created them to be."
As an artist, she has released three music CDS. As a minister she has spoken before thousands of people. Through each song and each message this little lady is using her voice to make a big difference.
"You are an over comer. You can overcome and you can push past anything that you are facing," she tells the students.
Jekalyn will be sharing her message through song Friday night at Beulah Grove Baptist Church.
