It's the way to go if you're going to Costco, but is it a street or a driveway?
"I would say a street," said Dusty Bowe. "But, does this street have a name?" we asked. "Not that I know of," he said.
The street to Costco has a name, it's Alexander Drive, but there's a move to rename for a business. Guess who...
"Probably Costco, it was here first," said Sam Bamford.
Costco has been on this street for two whole years, so logically it might get the portion of Alexander Drive from Riverwatch Parkway to the store named after it.
"Costco, Costco Drive, because it's been here," said Bobby Edmunds.
There's another business on the way here. Cabela's is still just a shell, but when it comes to renaming streets, Augusta appears to like it better because the proposal is to rename this part of Alexander Drive to Cabela Drive.
"Doesn't seem to add up does it, it's a little weird," said Bowe.
"It really doesn't matter to me either way," said Bonnie Clark.
Built think about it, what if you were Costco...you open two years ago and now the city is infatuated with the new kid. Feelings would be hurt.
"Probably yes, it's all about hurt feelings," Clark said.
And, too many street renamings.
"We're going to have Costco Freeway, Starbucks Avenue...yeah, you're right," says Augusta Commissioner Bill Lockett.
We could be establishing precedent, naming streets after businesses; down on the lower end of Broad Street, we could have Discotheque Drive.
"No, I don't think that would be a good idea," said Clark.
"I don't guess so," said Gene Palus.
But, it's a good guess that the new kid on this block is in the driver's seat for a street name.
And, just for the record, a street name change requires a majority of those on the street to approve, and the name Cabela Drive was approved by Costco.
