COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The National Black Farmers Association is targeting the future of its membership as it meets in South Carolina's capital city. President John Boyd says the 23rd annual meeting scheduled to start today in Columbia also will try to get black youth interested in farming.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Some parents are scratching their heads over less restrictive head lice policies that allow children with live bugs in their hair to return to the classroom. Some school nurses are no longer sending home "lice notes" to parents of other children in the classroom. The policy shift is designed to help keep children from missing class, shield children with lice from embarrassment and protect their privacy.

PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Marines at Parris Island are inviting members of the military and the public to attend a cake-cutting ceremony and uniform parade in honor of the Marine Corps' 238th birthday.
