Hundreds of Georgians spent the morning lining up to get financial assistance for their heating bills. It is part of an annual program by the Department of Human Services to help Georgians over the age of 65. May Park is one of three area centers set up as application sites.
Case Manager Sudena Nelson explains, "We try to help 3500 families. It depends on the allocation of the federal funding. Anything left over we help the general public in December."
People over the age of 65 can also apply at Bernie Ward and Carrie Mays Community centers. The applications are being taken Thursday and Friday then again from November 12th through the 15th. Only 150 applications are accepted each day.
